Sharkey’s offers families, whether local or on holiday, an all weather kids play zone. With four storey’s…yes 4 storey’s high…of secure, soft padded stairs, nets, tubes, slides and ball park areas on offer, Sharkey’s is a Mecca for parents whose loved ones need to burn off a little steam.
The good news for the parents is the licensed bar and restaurant Sharkey’s has to offer, so the whole family can stay, play and have fun.
For younger members of the family, Sharkey’s has a “Toddler Zone” for under fives, with soft steps, tunnels, slides and a contained ball park area. All areas have protected netting “enclosing” the different sections, so there is no fear that a tot may tumble (not the wrong way anyway!!)
The bigger boys and girls have another ball park area to dive into as well as many different ways up the structure itself. Soft rainbow steps offer one route (good for falling down stunt-man “stylie” as well as climbing up according to our 5 year old son!) Ladder like structures, netting and padded poles all add to the clambering facilities on offer, with “secret” tunnels leading to further areas and boxing punch-bags suspended from the roof in another area; there is loads to stimulate the senses here at Sharkey’s.
There is even a “Spooky Room”…completely black lit by an ultraviolet bulb therefore turning every white thing glowing in the dark!!
Higher still are the openings to the tubes and tunnels, that as an adult you just long to be able to get onto! Alas during kids time it is not possible.
The highest, steepest (and most visible point from where many parents sit at ground level…prompting cheers from the waiting mums and dads) is “The Cascade Slide”. Quite a daunting prospect for our wee ones to use first time. It consists of a sheer vertical drop that shallows out, providing a death defying thrill for the kids.
There is an age limit for this slide…5 years old, and there is also a member of staff who mans the post constantly (and yes they do have to clamber through the park themselves to get there) and the kids are offered the use of a cycle helmet as protection if they prefer.
The whole Sharkey’s experience, for a parent’s piece of mind, is one of safety. The gate from the ballpark to the restaurant area is locked and a member of staff must be notified when it needs to be opened.
Children have to leave their shoes behind the counter and brothers-in-law Keith Rupp and Jason Seale, who own and run Sharkey’s, seem to be very on the ball as the whole Sharkey’s experience is one of safety, yet fun. The owners provide excellent facilities for customers as well as offering party packages and even a secret party room!!
Sharkey’s also offers a state-of-the-art laser play zone. Recently revamped the futuristic game zone on the second floor is open all day from 10am – 8pm for ages 8 and over and playable by the half hour. It is no longer necessary to wait for groups, just join in the fun!! There is actually no upper age limit for the fun here, so us parents can enjoy the Sharkey’s experience too!
Sharky’s is open seven days a week and is found in the Old Harbour in Weymouth.
